A Permanent Employee

An employer sends an offer letter that references a probationary period and becoming a permanent employee. Employers and hiring managers must be very careful of their written communications so they do not inadvertently create a written contract and destroy the at-will nature of the employment relationship. Here, the manager arguably created a written contract with the new employee such that she could only be terminated with a strong showing of employer good cause.
